Hardware Installation

Recently I tried to install a Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse. I was
unable to complete the installation of the software. It stalled short of
completion. After repeated conversations with Logitech, they were unable to
resolve the problem. Now I am trying to install a new HP printer. I am
having the same problem. The installation, before the printer is connected,
stalls halfway through the process. Before I start with HP Support I was
wondering if possibly the problem could be in my Windows Installer and if
so, how could I diagnose and/or correct it. Any help for this old-timer
would be appreciated .

Why are you doing this backwards? Connect the printer to the PC and then
boot it. XP's plug&play feature will detect it and launch a balloon stating
that
new hardware was found and ask you if you want to install it. Answer Yes
and then it will either install or ask you to insert the installation CD.
Voila...

The instructions for this printer and two earlier HP printers I have had
specify that software installation should be done before connecting the
printer to the computer.
