If you have a rescue disk the valueadded folder may be on
it or your XP Disk, Mine was on disk #2

Insert the XP or Rescue CD, and run NTBACKUP.MSI
program
from the folder D:\valueadd\msft\ntbackup

You can get a copy here;

In XP Home the ASR Floppy Disk does not work . It will
NOT
backup to a CD. You can back up to a folder on your
hard drive then burn it to a CD. The native program in XP
will not span CD's though.

settings and installed software onto another drive

Whatever you use don't let XP boot with both identical drives connected.
This seems to cause problems according to posts over on
comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware.storage.

If you want to backup your hard drive regularly then I would set up the
spare drive as say an External USB drive and use Drive Image from Powerquest
to make scheduled image backups. I do this amd my USB drive holds several
nightly copies and one weekly copy. A full image backup with verify takes
about 13 GByte and 45 mins. Not the fastest way but ok.

To do a restore following a drive failure you would replace the defective
drive and use Power Quests Recovery Environment to do the restore (or
perhaps re-install windows and restore the backup to another partion).

In that case, you can not do what you want. XP does not have the
ability to make a complete mirror of the drive, and to do so
requires additional software. Two well-known products which can
do this are PowerQuest DriveImage and Norton Ghost.
