Hi,
I used Windows XP backup to do a complete backup of my C: drive, including
the OS and registry. I have Windows XP MCE, that came preinstalled by Dell.
Since I performed the backup, my hard drive has gone bad. So I've been
trying to figure out whether it is possible to use the Windows backup to
restore the OS onto a new hard drive. I've managed to restore the image onto
the new drive, but I haven't managed to successfully boot on the new drive.
I've used a borrowed Windows XP install disk to run FixMBR and FixBoot on
the new disk, but this did not help.
Any ideas, or will I need to pay Dell $50 to send me a replacement Windows
CD? (I didn't get one with the computer - just a restore partition on the bad
hard drive.)
Thanks,
Peter
