Hard disk problem

I have win xp home edition with 512mb ram and 80 gb hard disk.For the past
few days,whenever i goto run->eventvwr.msc , I notice a constant system error:
Type:error;Source:ntfs;event:55; and it reads
"The file system structure on the disk is corrupt and unusable. Please run
the chkdsk utility on the volume D:"
No matter how many times i run chkdsk on D: drive,the same error comes again
and again in the event viewer logs.Why is this happening?Does this indicate
an impending Hard disk failure or something else?Pls advice.

I would be inclined to run the hd manu checking utility, available as a
download from their site

Get it at the drive manufacturers web site.

A disk diagnostic utility should be available on the website of the
manufacturer that made your HDD....
