hard disk data recovery?

Hi, I am trying to recover data from a samsung hard disk that came as
a Ximeta external. Neither an Apple laptop nor my XP pc recognize the
drive when connected via USB, and the drive will not even spin up.
However, my BIOS does recognize the hard disk as a 120 GB Samsung when
connected internally. Still, no recognition in Windows. Is there any
hope for data recovery? Thanks for your help.

If the drive will not spin up, leave it alone. The more you play with it
the greater the odds are that you are destroying data. Send the drive
to a professional data recovery company. I like DriveSavers
(www.drivesavers.com) but there are others such as Ontrack and Seagate
Data Recovery.

These companies' services are not inexpensive, but only you can
determine the worth of your data.

If the drive is not spinning then you have a major problem.

You can verify that it is not spinning by carefully taking a long
screwdriver and placing the handle next to your ear and the tip of the
screwdriver on the metal case or cover of the drive, you should hear the
rotation noise. Be careful that the screwdriver does not touch any part of
the drive electronics.
