I'm at my wits end, and I hope that someone here can point me to a KB article
or offer some insight into what is happening.
I'm running a pentium 950, corsair xms2 ddr2 ram, x1900xtx, soundblast x-fi
platinum. Nothing is overclocked, running windows xp sp2 fully patched. All
drivers updated.
The issue is simple, Windows does a complete hard crash on me, no mouse
movement, no alt-tabbing, just completely stops. On a reboot, Windows does
not complain that it shutdown unexpectedly, there are zero error logs, and to
make matters worse, I can completely reproduce this issue, but I can't for
the life of me track down the problem.
I can be using my computer playing world of warcraft for hours and hours on
end without an issue; but, if I alt-tab out, and start up IE, Windows will
freeze within 30 minutes. If WoW isn't running and I start up IE, Windows
will freeze within 30 minutes. I use firefox, windows does not freeze. When
I use Ventrilo (VoIP application), Windows will freeze, when I use the Vongo
movie service, I can download and watch movies fine, but if I do their live
streaming, windows will freeze. If I use the bit-torrent downloader for wow
patches, windows freezes. Its not a heating issue, and I can't for the life
of me believe its a hardware issue since I can play video games without
issue, use firefox without issue, etc. It would appear the issue is related
to streaming, but I can't find anything even remotely being reported like
this as an issue.
Any ideas?
