HANGS on startup

I upgraded to 2000 from W98. Installation seemed to go
fine. Final screen is blue screen: "Windows 2000" at the
top left. At the bottom: "Starting Windows 2000." A
series of file names flashes through the bottom of the
screen, then the computer locks up. End of story.

I attempted several reboots with the same results. I can
hit F8 at the OS options screen, but every choice
(including last working configuration) fails. I can
reboot in W98 Safe Mode, but that doesn't help.

Solution?

Install new - In my view upgrades always tend to bring up any little
headaches that were hiding in the old OS.

Sorry to say that - but that's just been my experience...
Nothing like a nice, fresh, clean installation!!
