I keep having freezes when my IE6 is open. Why? I ran all my spyware
programs. I have Norton running. I have all updates up to date. So what
else? I just am stumped!? Anyone with any clues?

Internet Explorer might be damage try to uninstall and reinstall it
1._ Go to control panel
2._ Open Add or Remove Programs
3._ Select Add/Remove Windows components from the left side
4._ Uncheck Internet Explorer click next to uninstall follow the steps
5._ Restart your computer and repeat steps from 1 to 4
6._ Recheck Internet Explorer to reinstall it

That only removes access to IE, it doesn't remove IE.

If you have an third party toolbars turn them off.
Is this new or has it been going on for more than a week?

Pretty much. I get hang ups and freezes. By the way, that add/remove
process did not solve the freezes or hangups. Maybe a little less so but
still the error messages continue. I hate it. Very frustrating because I
have had to reformat my partition 2 times in just the last 2 weeks which
means the loss of data and I don't know where I am gonna get updates for SP1
after October. I don't think you can reformat and get SP2 off the bat. I
think you need to have SP1 first, I think. Ok... Will wait for your reply,
if you have one. :0)

I am getting the same thing.

IE6 is almost unusable now. I have located the problem (microsoft
error report tells me Disc fault; CHKDSK tells me disk OK) to the
history folder which seems to have corrupted.

I am using another computer to write this as I couldn't on the faulty
one.

I would like a way to uninstall and reinstall IE6. My Windows Xp came
OEM on a SOny disc so will only wipe the hard drive and totally
reinstall the whole thing, which I want to avoid at all costs. Local
computer shop wants to wipe C drive too. There must be a way round
this?

I ask "Is this new or has it been going on for more than a week?" and you
respond "Pretty much" which does not answer the question at all.

I'm having the same problem but when I click on IE icon on desktop my whole
cpu slows down. Have reinstalled XP as a upgrade didn't fix a thing. This
started a week ago and never had this problem before. I notice the night
before this started that when I shutdown cpu, I did my normal shutdown, ie
waited for screen to say Windows is shutting down, then turn my monitor off.
The next day, thinking it was shutdown,I turned monitor on and the second
prior to hitting the power button I notice the blue screen of death didn't
see the error as I didn't relize that the cpu had not shutdown ALL night.
After that is when I started having this problem. Funny thing is I can check
email, getting XP updates and play my online games just not able to get on
internet. Any suggestion would be helpful.

You do not have the same problem. Start your own thread. HINT: Don't kill
the power while Windows is shutting down; you may corrupt some important
files.
