Hang on scanning for updates 0%

Trying to update the SP1a to my Window XP Professional.
But hang on Scanning 0%Complete. On Technical Support
page, which tells me to download 5.6 scriping and
repairing IE. I have done these but to no avail. Any
other suggestions ?
