Windows XP SP2 system hangs

D

Debra

I have a workstation with Windows XP SP2 on it. About 2 weeks ago it started
to hang for no reason. I have run a full system scan with Symantec Endpoint,
I ran a full scan with Malware Bytes and both came up with nothing. I have
updated IE to IE 7. I ran a full diagnostics on all hardware and everything
checked out. I also ran a diagnostics on harddrive and all was ok. I have
looked and the Event log and the only error that keeps showing up is...The
LafService service failed to start due to the following error: The system
cannot find the file specified. I cannot find anything about LafService. Is
this a windows service or does it belong to another application?
I sure would appreciate any info on this.
Thanks,
Debra

LafServcice appears to be a SAP tool - check Google for it.

The simplest method to fix your problem would be to use System Restore to
set your machine back by 3 or 4 weeks.

Random hanging is generally caused by overheating of the machine, so if you
haven't done anything different to the machine you should just look at it
from a maintenance point of view. Check your computers heat I'm not sure what
software is out there for your specific system try the manufacturer for
software for your computer I know Gigabyte/Intel have software but you need
to get the software for your computer. Good Luck

I did run Dell diagnostics and nothing was found. All fans are running. But I
followed Pegaus' advice and did a restore and now the system won't even bring
up Windows. It boots to the windows login. I login and as soon as it gets to
the desktop, it kicks out to the Windows log in again. Does this in safe mode
also. I restored back to the beginning of Feb. when I knew the system was
running fine. Now what do I do? This system has alot of specialty software
that is why I'm trying so hard not to have to reload because it could take me
days.

Thanks,
Deb

Ok...I did a Windows repair and got the system back. But I'm not sure if the
system hanging is going to continue. Does anyone know what the LafService is?

Check your specialty software. Do a Google search for 'lafservice integrity
test' for a clue.
