Hang after capture from video device solved

I had been running WMM occasionally, but when I tried today, it hung
after I clicked "Capture from video device". It also would BSOD /
reboot my system sometimes when I tried to kill it with
control-alt-delete. So I came heare and read about bad codecs and
about video accelleration causing hangs, but those didn't seem to fit
with my problem. I also read a post in this forum, unanswered, of a
guy with the exact same symptoms... down to the jittering on the
window, and the solid hour glass cursor. But the capture driver looked
okay because I was able to open the neo capture software and it was
fine (but I like MM2 better). I actually have two capture devices in
this computer, so I disabled one right away and the problem still
persisted. Then I made only the other capture device enabled, and the
same hang happened! That was the key. It wasn't the video capture
devices, it MUST be the audio capture.

Under Sounds and Audio Devices in the control panel, I saw, and
suddenly realized, that I had installed "Total Recorder" and set it as
my default sound recording device. Total Recorder, by the way, is like
an audio "snag-it".... cool thing to have, but it doesn't get along
with the windows movie maker! I set it to my 'normal' sound recording
thing (Avance AC97 Audio) and it didn't hang or reboot any more.

XP SP2
WMM 2.1.4026.0
AverMedia DVD EZMaker PCI
Total Recorder 5.3
