No, in this case I am using a 15" CRT with program
shortcut on full screen setting and compatibility set to
Windows 95, 640x480 etc. The computer is a PIII 866 with
an ATI card. My laptop LCD is ok with one of the DOS
programs and almost ok with the other (a small strip at
the bottom is not included).

Create a shortcut to the DOS program. In its properties/options there is
a choice for "full screen" or "window" mode.
If "Full screen" doesn't look right, choose window and try Alt/Enter
keys to make full-screen.
