I get a very "compressed" screen when running DOS
applications. Programs looked fine in '98 and ME. XP gives
me only about half of the screen for the program. I have
tried all the settings in properties.

I'm pretty sure there's a run full screen option in one of the various
properties dialogues. Right click on the _program_ [not it's short cut]
and hit the "screen" tab.

R-click in the window's border, take properties. On Fonts change to a
larger font, and in Layout maybe to a larger window (expressed in
characters and number of lines ). Also hitting Alt-Enter will toggle to
Full screen mode for it, but you need to get Fonts roughly right first
to make that worth it
