Cannot get Full Screen in DOS window

Hello and thanks in advance.

My co-worker has created some DOS menu and runs some older programs thru
these menus. The problem is on Win98 the program fills the whole screen, but
in WinXP it only fills half the screen. I tried changing window size in the
properties in the DOS windows but it does not work. Any tips, sites will be
grateful. If you need more info please ask.

Hi Ken,

In the DOS command window, press Alt-Enter, and to return it press the
combo again. Of course that only works on an active window.

Did you try changing the Default? In a CMD window, click the icon in the
top left and select Defaults. In the Options tab under Display Options,
click on Full Screen, and click OK.

Hello Terry,

Thanks for you reply.

I understand the Alt-Enter function, but when I do that the display shows
only half screen. If you need a screen shot let me know and I can show you
what I mean. Thanks again. Note: LOL , if I pounded the keyboard every
time I had issues I would not have any keyboard anymore :)

Thanks for your reply, but that did not work it only showed some little
window for adjust for the current window. If you need a screen shot to know
what I'm referring to let me know. Thank you again.

Hello Louis,

Maybe I didn't explain it correctly. For example, when you open up any
program the program is shown on your monitor in full screen. My issue is in
the DOS window the program does not show in the full screen, only half. It's
almost like the program screen size is reduced to only half the screen. If
you need a screen shot let me know so I can show you what I mean.

Thanks again.

What is the name of the program? You may need to put a switch in the
program's PIF file Cmd Line field.

Ken,

Did you try changing the Default view as described also? That would
make every instance open full screen.

A screen shot might be helpful if you think it's an oddity. I have a
1680x1050 screen and if I change a command prompt window to full screen,
it fills it.

I think I understand your problem--you've got a 50-line screen and your DOS
program is only using 25 lines of it. Try this:

Use Alt-Enter to switch the program to a window, then Alt-Space to pull up
the control menu. Go to Properties, then the Layout tab. Set both the
screen buffer height and the window height to be 25 lines.

Click OK, then select "Save properties for future windows". Press Alt-Enter
again to switch back to full screen, and see if it looks better. You might
have to close the DOS program and restart it.

Hope this helps.

If it's a DOS program he's trying to run, he could download DosBox
and run it from there. DosBox will create a virtual DOS environment
within XP, so Wordstar will function like it's running under MS-DOS.

Hello JJJ,

I finally resolved this issue by adjusting the screen & buffer size in DOS
window properties & modifying the batch file.

Thanks so much for your feedback & have a Great Day.
