This problem has been going on for a year now and Dell Tech Support has been
absolutely useless and can not solve this problem. They keep sending me new
printers, but it is not a printer problem, it's an OS problem and they are
evidently clueless. I installed SP1a about a year ago and after installing
it, the computer did not recognize that the Dell AIO A920 printer was
connected via USB to the computer. I've downloaded updated print driver from
Dell repeatedly, but this did not fix the problem because in order to install
the updated driver or even re-install the printer, the computer must be able
to communicate with the printer and it can't. I did a system restore after
four months of attempting to get help from Dell support and the printer
worked again.

I then upgraded to XP Professional about 6 months ago and windows update
indicated that I needed to install SP1a in order to be able to download other
necessary security updates. I did so and once again the computer didn't
recognize the printer is attached. I can't do a system restore this time
because I need XP Pro for business and school work. After spending another
hour and a half on the phone with Dell last night, with no resolution, I've
given up on them. Does anyone have a clue what is going on and how I can fix
this problem?

Thanks so much for any help that anyone can provide.

Lori,

I hate to break it to you, but the best use for that printer would be to
skip it. Dells are rebodged Lexmarks and have even higher running costs (and
are far more problematical). Buy yourself a proper printer (I love my Epson
R800) and your health (both physical and financial) will thank you.
