group policies do not work

1. I have a windows 2000 server Domain controller and a number of 2000
prof clients that
is connected to this domain. I have recently installed group policies
(se below) on the server and the
clients are installed from a ghost image I created.

The clients are controlled very hard from the administrator on the local
machines. So the users have almost
no rights on the clients. The problem is that I really need to (1)
install some software on the clients (the clients are
about 130 machines) and (2) make some changes in the secutiry local
policies on the clients... Group policies seems
to be the right tool! So I began to install Group policies:

* Opened startmenu and run; <mmc>
* add a snap-in and add again
* choose Group policies in the list
* as a group policy object i choose the domain (not the domain controller)
* all extensions where added (as default)

I saved the console as "Group policies" and exited...

Is there something here I have forgotten or ignored to do? No, then we
continue...

I have created a MSI of the software that I wanted to install...

**
I open the "Group policy"-object from the adminstrative menu and choose
<computer> and software installation.
I right click in the <empty> list on the right and adds the packages.

When the users logging on to the domain... nothing...
**
And if I use <user> to and secutity local policies and make a change...
Nothing...
**

I have no idé what to do now...

When you put the MSI in Group Policy, did you Assign or Publish? If
published, it has to be installed by invoking the application or attempting
to open a document that is associated with the application, or through
Add/Remove Programs. Better way to do it without user intervention is by
Assigning it to the computer, instead of the User, if all computers in a
specific Domain or OU require it. If only certain users do, then Assign to
that user so it gets installed upon logon on any client machine they log in
to. As far as Group Policy replication, were you having any problems with
it? That was unclear to me. Please let us know, though.
