grey email attachments

I'm hoping someone can help me with this little email problem I have. Every
once and a while, I'll get an email where I cannot open the attachment. I
can't see that there's any consistency with the types of files attached. I
do run norton antivirus, but as far as I can see, none of the settings there
would prohibit me from opening so many attachments. Anyone have any ideas
as to what the problem could be?

Are you using Outlook Express to read your e-mails?

Open OE, go to Tools, Options, Security, uncheck the box that says "Do not
allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentionally be a virus"

What happens when you try to open the files, any errors..? How are you
trying to open them and what is the file extension of the files you are
trying to open..?
