I have not managed to get a green light in the virus
protection area of the Security Center even though I have
Norton Antivirus installed. It is either 'Check status'
or 'not monitored'. Ain't I supposed to get a green light?

IF you are using Norton AntiVirus 2003 or earlier -- you will have to check
the Windows Security Box that your antivirus software will take care of
this.

AntiVirus 2004 has an upgrade (WMI) that has recenly been released to be
able to report to WinXP SP2 on its status.

AntiVirus 2005 is due for release - October 1, 2004 - and has the ability
built-into this version.

This works for Norton AntiVirus 2003. I have installed it on 3 different
machines now. The supplied link will take you directly to the download. If
you are not comfortable with this - look for a different link on your own.

When you extract the files, double click on SYMWMI04.MSI to install the
update!

I read that it also works on the 2002 version but I have not tested this!

What version? Norton AV 2003 and earlier is not recognized by the
security center. Norton has not released a patch for it, and probably
will not. 2004 and later versions are recognized.

Another Example of someone spreading bad info. If you are running Norton AV
2004, simply run LiveUpdate and it will download the VMI update that will
make it and Norton Personal Firewall integrate into Windows Security Center.

If you are running 2003 or 2002, Visit the Symantec website for instructions
on how to update those versions. The earlier versions have to be updated
manually, but they will be compatible with Windows Security Center after
update.

Jason, please make sure that you at least have a clue about what you are
posting before spewing. The update for NAV an NPF have been available for
download since the 8th of August.

Bobby,
Re: your second paragraph, I am running Norton AV 2003. I
do not have Norton Personal Firewall. LiveUpdate runs
automatically on my computer. On a manual run of
LiveUpdate just now I get confirmation that it is
uptodate. Are you suggesting that I go to 2004 or 2005 by
saying that 2003 version has to be updated?
Thanks for your reply.

No. Your version (2003) is running properly. The new Windows Security
Center just cannot recognize the status of it.

NOTE: There are certain individuals who frequent these newsgroups who will
add to this thread by saying that you should NOT download form "unknown"
sites. The above link is safe to use. There are hundreds, if not
thousands, who have downloaded and used it. After installation, you can
verify it's safety by visiting any of the on-line virus scanners.

I downloaded from the link supplieds by you. It created an icon on my
desktop. When I click on that icon I get a message that Windows cannot read
a .rar type file. What do I do? I do not know where to look for SYMWMI04.MSI
you have referred to, even after I did a search of all my files.
Pardon me for not being smart!

Thanks
