Microsoft Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse

My Dell 5150 laptop will not let this mouse "takeover" from the laptop
mousepad.
I have installed drivers, updated them, restarted, checked the Device Manager,
checked the usb and ps2 ports.......it must be a simple fix but I have spent
hours searching here and there for an answer.

The green light on the USB Adapter and the Mouse red light are both working,
fresh batteries and I have pushed the connect button on the back too. The
balloon which says a new device or hardware is ready for use (something like
that) does not pop up either.....

Would appreciate help. Thank you in advance!

Check with Dell Support. (You may need to disable the touchpad on that
particular Notebook or need updated drivers.)

MS Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse 4000 is running just dandy in my ol' Dell
300m here, as have all previous MS Wireless Notebook Optical Mouses I've
used.

I'd also try it on another pc - see if it works ok there.

Have you tried pressing the "connect" button on the mouse and/or
adaptor ?
