I have just downloaded some of Mr Gates powerpoint presentations and find not
only the content interesting but also the use of some of the graphics.
Unfortunately on opening them up in powerpoint I find that I cannot cut and
paste these graphical shapes into some of myother presentations. Going to
the slide master does not help either. Any advice?

Open presentatation template

Create a blank slide

File > Save As.... > change file type to something else (e.g. JPG)

Or display a slideshow

Press the magic Print Screen key on your keyboard

start another application

edit > paste

When I've seen Mr. Gates' PowerPoint presentations, the thing that always
strikes me first about them is "You can't DO that in PowerPoint".

Mr. Gates doesn't use PowerPoint in the same way mere mortals do.

I'm guessing that each slide is a single image or a composite of several images.

The Gates show I studied had only backgrounds (set as images.) No actual
"content" at all. Actually a poor use of PP in my view!

You can right click them and save background as an image.
