Graphics problem with vista

I just recieved Vista (via the mail) and installed it. after my first few
problems which i sorted out. windos finished installing.

so I log into Vista for the first time, and my graphics dont work. all I see
is triangles in shades of blue, and everything is directed towards the
center. ctrl+alt+del works and the graphics return to normal.

what i should also mention is that all programs work (well i started
clicking, and what looked like windows popped up)

anyone have ideas on the matter?

specs (if needed)
AMD +3200 Venice
1gb DDR
ATI Radeon X1300 512mb
Gigabyte K8-NF9 mobo
40GB IDE
30GB IDE - this is where vista is crrently installed
250GB SATA - i had a 50gb partition for vista, which failed.

also using Windows XP x64 Edition

I had forogtten to mention

here's a detailed description of what's happening
I boot up into Vista, A OK.
login screen, looks very nice, kinda like the OSX logon (moving along...)
as soon as i logged in, i get this:

a black background, in front is various shades of blue in the form of
triangles, and other shapes. they are windows of various items, and i can
move hem. but there is no change in graphics. as soon as i hit Ctrl+alt+del,
the colors return and im brought to the task menu.

from there i rebooted, and same result. I honestly have no idea whats wrong...

Had the same issue. The problem is apparently the ATI video driver that was
included in the Vista beta. I downloaded a new driver from ATI and it
corrected the problem. You'll have to boot into "safe" mode, run the ATI
installer, then bring up the graphics card in device manager and tell it to
use the new driver.
