graphics card hell: the demon's wrath

Hello once again to all of ya'll! My video card (the demon)
is still giving me hell. I have tried all of your
suggestions, and they have all been good, but sorry to
say, not good enough. Currently, I am re-trying a
suggestion that had seemed to help. But I would greatly
enjoy any more you have.
Once again, I'm using a nVidia Gefore4 Ti4200 128MB 4X AGP.
Here have been my card's symptoms so far:
-Screen looks terrrible when card is enabled in device
manager.
-I can't get completed access to the card's display
settings or software.
-I can't change the screen color or reselution when card
is enabled.
-Unless I use a updated driver from the web, XP doesn't
boot up completely.

But, I have new hope. Upon uninstalling the card from my
system, then removing the card (physically) from it's
slot, letting it sit to disipate any electrical charge,
then putting back in and using an updated driver from the
web, it worked. Yes, that's right, it worked! But then...a
system crash. I haven't seen it work like that since. So
please help me!

Hi, Novice.

Congratulations on your progress so far. Looks like you still haven't
learned to click Post Reply, to continue the conversation (we old-timers
still call it a "thread"). When you click New Post, the Web-based interface
to this newsgroup starts a NEW conversation and we have no background or
context to refer to. :>(
it worked. Yes, that's right, it worked! But then...a
system crash.

Define "system crash". Did your computer smoke? Make funny noises?
Spontaneously reboot? BSOD? Just hang? Or what? And what else was
happening at the time? What were the steps leading up to the "crash"? And,
most importantly, tell us the exact text of any error message(s) that you
saw.

In addition to your video card, it might also help to know the make and
model of your computer or motherboard.

Had problem with a Elsa Gladiac 920 Graphics Card.
Internal breakdown caused continuos device failures
notices by Win XP Pro. Relpaced with an older ATI All-
Wonder Rage Pro and it solved the problem. Suspect the
the Elsa 920 had component break down do to overheat. HAD
ADEQUATE COOLING FOR my PC has 4 fans and the the nearest
PCI slot was vacant, therefore, the card was defective.

Hey, guess what, White?! I clicked "post reply" and now
I'm replying to your dumbass message! Of course I know how
to carry on a thread. But I start a new one every day so
that maybe it woun't be such a pain in the ass to find my
old post. Ya ever think about that, huh?!
So you want to know how my system crashed? Okay, I had
just booted up, and XP wasn't coming up very well, my
screen kept flickering, bad sound, and bad coloring, but
then my screen flickered and the desktop looked great, and
for the first time I saw an icon on my taskbar that was
related to my video card (I had never seen it before).
Then the system was finished booting up. I moved my mouse
over to the new icon and right-clicked it. Big mistake.
Instantly I saw a screen that I had seen before, one of
the many Windows "screw-up screens." My system started to
dump all of it's memory to my hard disk. And then my unit
restarted. And my video card has never worked like that
agaun since. But I'm going to try the process again. Just
to see. So, is that you wanted to know?

No Old B@stard, I expect them to hate me. And you sure fit
the bill. Thank you Old B@stard, for pointing out my
faults. And I will try to improve my manners and attitude
just as soon as you kiss my @ss!

Now I know that I can be a bit rude sometimes. (Yeah,
sometimes, that's it) But I sure I haven't terribly
offended anybody yet. But if I have, I half-heartedly
apoligize to you. (get it, "half-heartedly," hahaha!) :)
