I have tried to hook gmail to outlook 2003. Repeatedly get the following:
specified server was found. no response from server. please verify port & SSL
info correct. Outlook could not connect to outgoing mail server SMTP.
problem could be server name or port or server may not support SSL. get same
for POP3. I have checked everything. have disabled PC-cillin. Nothing
works. Would it help if I bought Outlook 2007 and installed. I really need
to be able to send e-mails from some programs on my laptop and don't know how
else to do it other than from Outlook and can't get it to work.

Might be helpful if you post the ENTIRE error message.
Have you tried the Test Account Settings function?
Any error messages there?

I replied to your original thread about this but as that post has probably
dropped to the bottom for you (as you are using the web interface), I'll
repost it to this thread as well;

Probably not as it should work with Outlook 2003 already. Your issue is more
likely to be a configuration issue which upgrading won't help your with.

Have you verified that all your settings are indeed correct? Especially port
settings?
The settings posted here for Gmail should work;
http://www.howto-outlook.com/howto/accountsettings.htm

Also, have you checked that your firewall isn't blocking these ports to be
used by Outlook?

In some cases an ISP may not allow the use of 3rd party SMTP servers on
their network. In that case, you'll have to use the SMTP server settings of
your ISP instead those of Gmail. Contact your ISP if you do not know these
settings.

The following is what I get in the Test Account Settings:
Send test e-mail message: the specified server found, but there was no
response from server. please verify that port & SSL info is correct. to
access these settings close this dialog, then click more settings & click on
advanced.
Log onto incoming mail server (POP3): same as above
Find incoming mail server (POP3): Outlook could not connect to the incoming
mail server (POP3) then same as above
Find outoging mail server (SMTP) Outlook could not connect to the outgoing
mail server (SMTP) then same as above
Tabs are set in advanced settings at 995 and 465 and server requires
encrypted connection are checked for both incoming and outgoing.

Yes, I tried what you said. I checked my settings with your ref. I cannot
understand why I am having such a problem on this laptop. Did the same thing
