global change to text box fill

Grace

I have about 50 slides in a power point presentation. Each has a different
background fill. How do I globally change the background fills for all
slides to white. Thanks for any assistance rendered.

Do you need to change a textbox fill (as the subject indicates), or the
slide background (as the message body indicates)?

If they're "manual" textboxes -- that is, ones you created by clicking the
textbox (or rectangle or other autoshape) tool on the Drawing toolbar --
you'll need to use VBA to do this.

If they're textboxes that said "click to add text," then those are known as
"placeholders." If they're placeholders, you should be able to reapply the
slide layout (Format | Slide Layout, choose the appropriate layout there --
probably the one with title and bulleted text) to the slides to have them
take on the attributes of the slide master (which more than likely doesn't
have a fill in the placeholder).

You can use the Format Painter option to quickly change the fills in all the
other boxes once you have changed one (and used that to apply the format).

Remember -- you can double click the Format Painter to make it "sticky" so
that you don't have to pick up the format to apply to each box.

Thanks for comments.

Tried your suggestions but did not work. The only way I can change the text
box in each slide is:
right click in the body of each text box in a slid and go to format text
box. Then, chose no fill in the color dropdown box and click OK. I tried the
format tool without success.

Comments?

Let me explain.

Each slide has only one text box in it that has a colored background. I want
to globally change all colored backgrounds in the text boxes so that only
the text shows on an all white background. I can do this by editing each
slide. I was wondering if all slides could be altered all at once?

Sorry for all the confusion, hope for further comments.

I don't think there's a way to do this globally, although you might be able
to do it with code. How's your VBA?

Otherwise, I'd go for the Format Painter solution.

Gee:

Thanks for comments.

The shapes style add-in is impressive. It would probably do what I want;
however, probably not worth investing in for now because I only one
presentation. It seems that PowerPoint will not let you globally edit Test
Boxes within a slide unless they are "Placeholders." Hence forth, I will use
Placeholder text boxes that should resolve the problem.

Thanks tons all for most helpful comments.

VBA code is not too good. Probably get by with a snippet or two if someone
has already written something like this.

Thanks again for your assistance,

Similarly, when I insert slides from another presentation, in the new
presentation the slides have a white fill in the placeholder that I don't
want. This attribute is not on the original slide or on the new
presentation. How can I make it go away? I am having to change every
slide's placeholder in the new presentation to "no fill" slide by slide.

If it's truly happening in the placeholders, go to View | Master and remove
the fill from the placeholders on the masters. They may be filled with what
used to be the background color, which is why you're seeing them now but
don't on the original file.

You may need to reapply the slide layout after you change the master. Format
| Slide Layout, then choose the appropriate one from the task pane.

I have done that, and the problem still occurs. Didn't used to happen, a
recent thing that now happens every presentation. Frustrating.

You know, I bet you deleted placeholders on the master slide. That will
cause this problem. Don't delete those. You may need to reapply the
placeholders to the slide master. Do this by going to View | Master | Slide
Master, then Format | Master Layout.

If you absolutely don't want the placeholders to show on the slide, then
drag it off the edge and set the font to a small type size so it doesn't
throw things off as you scroll from side to side. I don't recommend this,
though -- what I really recommend is that you use the slide layouts as they
were intended: insert a slide (this is in normal editing view, not master
view), then go to Format | Slide Layout and choose Blank or Title Only.

The free demo allows you to create up to five styles and it sounds as though
that's all you'd need.

Total investment: $Zip.00
