Glitch (thankfully) missing since upgrading to Windows Defender

I have an XP SP2 computer, DSL connection. One annoying glitch I
repeatedly encountered using MSAS was an error message with Outlook Express.
When trying to download new newsgroup messages, a window would frequently
pop up saying..."Unknown error." I don't have the technological expertise
to say for sure MSAS was the culprit, but whenever MSAS was installed, those
error messages were far more frequent. Once MSAS was uninstalled, the error
messages were much less frequent. I've had Windows Defender installed for 6
days now and have yet to see the "Unknown error" message.
