Gigabit Ethernet only Connecting at 100mbps ?

I have 2 systems setup as follow

1x Asus P4C800E Deluxe Motherboard with Intel 1000 CT GLA
with a 10/100 Us robotics card for connecting to the rest of the Networ

1x Supermicro X5DAL-G Dual Xeon with Intel 1000 MT GLA

I wish to connect the two together independant of the rest of the system as the Dual Xeon operates as a render box to the workstation and requires the higher speed connection for the transfer of the data.

However, in connecting the two of them direct, the network status only indicates a speed of 100mbps, and even the intel pro set software states this, and goes on to say that the connection is capable of higher speeds. I have Windows XP pro service pack 1a installed on both systems and at present have removed the 10/100 card to avoid problems that maybe faced there also

The only way of indicating a higher speed is allowing the wizard to set the connections up and bridge the firewire connection with the GLAN on both, even then one states 3gbps and the other 1.8gbps.

Any help would be very much appreciate

regards

Are you using Gigabit cable? If not there's your answer.
