GIF's won't display on ebay pages

C

Corey

I've got XP SP2 (IE SP2) and since then I've noticed GIF's will not display
on any of ebay's pages (and they have THOUSANDS of them). JPG's come
through, but not GIF's. IE just shows a box with the dreaded red 'X' in it
instead of the graphic. Seems to only happen on ebay. I checked Google's
logo's and they are GIF's, but they come through just fine. I've done
extensive searches on the issue and it seems I'm the only one reporting the
problem. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
Corey

Hi Corey :)

Try the following and see if it helps:

I've tried 90% of your links to suggestions. No luck yet. Isn't it odd that
it only happens on ebay's pages?!?!?!?

Hi Corey :)

Well...actually, there are numerous people who seem to have this same
problem only with ebay. It is also hard to tell why, and ebay seems to
present many various problems unrelated to SP2.

Try the following and see if it helps:

Problems Displaying Images in Internet Explorer
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=/servicedesks/bin/kbsearch.asp?Article=181836

Images May Not Refresh on a Web Page
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q237885

Try the QuictTime check at:
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/qtcheck/

or...

Go to Control Panel and used QuickTime > select QuickTime settings for file
type associations and check Internet file types. Re-open the web page and
see if all is well.

or.......

Try uninstalling the service pack and installing the XP one. This has been
mentioned here before and it seems to only happen with the IE update, not
the XP one

or......

Try this Knowledge Base article (Error Locating Object Handler)
http://support.microsoft.com/suppor...180553&rnk=1&src=DHCS_MSPSS_gn_SRCH&SPR=MSALL

or..........

Program to reset registry settings for images **This program modifies
registry settings - Use at own risk**
http://www.tomsterdam.com/insideoe5/download/imagefix.reg

or...................

Open IE & on the menu, click on TOOLS / INTERNET OPTIONS. Then select the
"Advanced" Tab. Scroll down to the heading that says MULTIMEDIA. Make sure
there's a check in the box next to "Show Pictures". If not, click the box,
then the apply button, then OK. Close the browser, then re-open it. You
should see the pictures.

also.......

Another possibility is that there may be a HOSTS file causing the "dreaded
red-x". In your Find files/folders dialog, Search for *.HOSTS - if any are
found (must be in UPPERCASE) usually in c:\windows - they can be safely
deleted.

If these steps do not resolve your problem, please post back to this thread
with the details and any error messages.

Hope this helps

Hi Jan,

I also have the same problem as Corey. I have tried everything you've
listed. The last thing I have tried is clicking on the red x that is showing
on EBAY's website and then clicking properties. From there all the red x's
show up as bug.cgi

Whats up with that?

Corey, I found a solution to my problem. Do you have ZONE ALARM installed?
If so, you need to open it up and go to the Privacy tab. From there click on
Site List and find www.ebay.com You have scroll over to web bugs and manual
tell Zone Alarm to allow web bugs. For some reason in the new update to Zone
Alarm they stopped allowing web bugs to be viewed. I've heard they aren't
fixing that issue either for some reason. So if you have this problem on
other websites and you have Zone Alarm, this is the route to go!

Good Luck :)
