I have a number of GIF imagers on my site that I get from a 3rd party. I
reference them to that 3rd party site rather than download each and every
one. I have done this for years have not had a problem. All of the sudden,
the link appears to be broken. I have fixed most of them (by re-copy the gif
and pasting on mysite). Look at the bottom of this page:
http://www.villagewalkliving.com/clubs.htm You will see only one of the six
gifs working. Can anyone explain why the link broke? I tried to recalulate
the hyperlinks but that did not work.
All of the links are broken on this page also:
http://www.villagewalkliving.com/fitness_activities.htm

First: Do you actually have permission from the third party site to link
their pictures to your site?

Right click on the broken images (in your browser), select Open In New
Window...and you get a message that they're server is too busy.

However...this is called hot-linking and is kinda a no-no, you shouldn't do
it. It uses up the host's bandwidth (maybe why you get a server busy msg).
The other thing is if the webmaster on the host site is nasty you may find
that instead of a cute doggie pix on your site, one day you may have porno
images - a subtle way of telling the hotlinker that he doesn't want to you
hotlink.

I see nothing on their site authorizing you to link directly to the image,
only that they ask you to provide a link on your to their site.

If this is the case, you could end up in deep legal trouble for bandwidth
theft, and they could be starting to block you.

You might also find a surprise one of these days when they link you to a
porn image. ;-)

I thought Animation Factory's images, with the exception of a few (maybe
half a dozen) samples, were for sale, not Free for the taking.

The OP has not indicated he subscribes to Animation Factory....

At least I do not get the impression he/she does subscribe to the site.

This seems to indicate so -

But - that subscription doesn't include hotlinking, as far as I recall....
