File Permissions

My host just changes servers and I am experencing a number of problems. One I
can't figure out. When I try to publish I get the following error: Cannot
change permissions on file "_x_todo.htm"
I have looked everywhere on my site and on the server, but can't find that
file. Yet, no matter how I try to publish, I get that error and the publish
stops. I did a search as well as looking in every page and file folder. Any
help???

For a disk based web it lives in
_vti_pvt\_vti_cnf

In an IIS web it lives in C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\websitename\_vti_pvt

Ask your host how they move your site to the new server. With FP extended sites, the best way is to
publish it

is your isp anythingemail, by chance. i use them and about 2 weeks ago they
changed their servers and are now running linux with apache.

when i published my site on sat 10/29/05, everything published, but i got
the same error message and did not get the box allowing me to either view the
publish log file or go to my site.

i had changed 5 files and those files did publish, but now everytime i
publish, frontpage wants to publish them again.

i did find the files, _x_todo.htm and _x_todoh.htm on both the server and on
my pc.

on my pc they are located in the _vti_pvt directory of my website.

my question is : what do these files do and is it safe to delete them, on
both my pc and on the server?

thanks a lot for your help

Do not delete any _vti folders and files, these folders and files are what FP uses to manage your
site's content and navigation structure, etc.

Yes, Rick I am with Anythingemail and they were damaged by Wilma. I did work
everything out today. They removed all the files on the server and set me up
as a new client. I them published the site and everything is working fine now.

glad to hear everything is working ok now. i emailed them yesterday and got a
reply that they would be up and running in customer support as soon as the
electricity was restored to their building.

i suspect that they may have to do the same thing for me, set me up as a new
client and then have me republish my site.
