Problems upon publication with files Thumbs.db

Junkyard Engineer

For 3 years I had no problem publishing on my server IIS 5.1 (XP pro) with
FP02 then FP03. I had to reinstall everything after a HD crash. Now,
whenever I try to publish, a message ask me to ignore/overwrite files
Thumbs.db which are everywhere in my site and on the published site. If I
try to overwrite, publishing stops with an error saying I don't have
permission to overwrite. Ignore works but I don't know the implication of
it. My FPSE02 are running fine.

1) What the hell is this message about not beeing able to write those
Thumbs.db files ?
2) How do I correct the problem

TIA :)

Do a windows search and delete all of the thumbs.db files from your website.
Then publish.

thumbs.db files are created when you browse folders containing images, using windows explorer.
They are not used in a web site, and will give FrontPage fits.

I did that and I'm still getting this error :

"Server error: The server extensions were unable to access the file
".Thumbs.db.tmp". Please check the file permissions."

Problem is that when I do a Windows search for .Thumbs.db.tmp, I don't find
anything.

nothing on the inetpub

I finally uninstalled/reinstalled IIS and it seems to work now but no clue
why it happened in the first place

Open the live site in FP and delete all thumbs.db files and do the same on your local copy, then do
not browse the folder holding your web content via Windows Explorer or My Computer.

ok, thanks. I also specify only the details view in those folders within
windows explorer

Rarely do you really need to view the folders holding your web content outside of FP, as all changes
to the content should always be done from within FP so that FP is aware of content changes.
