Does Frontpage have a check in/check out feature?

Matthew

I have never seen any sort of reference in frontpage to check in/check out
but I am getting a strange error message when I try to publish one page on
my site. Oddly enough it is a page with a small info request form on it:
www.hallssalvage.com/feedback.htm I only made some simple text changes to
the page but when I try to publish my changes I get the following error
message - Server Error: Page feedback.htm is checked out by
INFOQUEST\frontpage833 - and my host's tech support team isn't sure what to
make of it... they know Dreamweaver has a checkin/checkout feature and asked
if FP does as well. I've reset the extensions on the site and flushed out
FP's cache and temp files...

With the website open in FrontPage,
Tools->Site Settings - general tab

Clear the box: "Use document check-in and
check-out"

If the box is already clear, then try ticking the
box, click OK
Then clear the box as above.

Tried both ways several times and I still get the:
Server Error: Page feedback.htm is checked out by INFOQUEST\frontpage833

I'm starting to think there is something wrong on the host end....

A rough and ready test (which may not be
accurate) shows that the source control is stored
in the _cti_cnf file associated with the file
being opened.
If this is true - it is for disc based webs -
then deleting the _vti_cnf folders and files
should cure the problem.

There is one _vti_cnf folder in every folder in
the website (except folders with names starting
with _vti). These folders cannot be seen in
FrontPage, but can be deleted using an FTP
program, or your host may oblige ... If you
delete any other _vti* folders (such as _vti_pvt)
the extensions will have to be re-installed.

It is possible that feedback.htm is the only file
affected, so delete the file associated with
feedback.htm first, just to check.
This will be at _vti_cnf\feedback.htm

The _vti_cnf files and folders will be recreated
(after deletion) by using Tools->Recalculate
Hyperlinks in FrontPage.

Note that these files contain a brief history of
the files in the website - who created and
edited the file and when, links to and from the
page withion the website (used for file
management) and publishing history. Recreating
the files should re-establish the link history,
but the rest will be lost.

Note - a file that is checked out has a tick
next to the filename in the folder list and
folders view. If ther is no tick showing, and you
get the error, there IS something strange on the
server.
