Poor JPG and GIF images

I am taking two 1-page PowerPoint documents, saving them as .gif and as .jpg,
and importing all six documents to a web page. I then Insert>Picture the
..jpg and .gif files making an autothumbnail (default settings) for each.
Finally, for comparison, I create a link to the .ppt files.

As you can see on the site below, the thumbnails are of poor quality (the
..gif is worse) and, when they are clicked to show the full size .jpg or .gif
image everything is nice and fuzzy.

Am I missing a step somewhere?

The thumbnails in jpg are about as good as it gets. The linked pages
should be in a borderless table 624 pixels wide and they will be
clearer and will print on most printers.

A screenshot converted to a gif, will always be more blurry than a jpg and so will the
resulting thumbnail images.
A gif image only supports a total of 256 individual colors, where a jpg supports almost 17
million.

For better quality, always use .jpg for images with many colors.
