GIANTASAlert in Taskbar

Cheers

I have had MSAnti-Spyware Beta for 3 days and today I
turn on to find an 'open app' or 'open window' reminder
in my taskbar which has a yellow exclamation mark inside
a triangle and is entitled "GIANTASAlert:Messenger
Service". It does nothing if left or right clicked on.
Figured out it had to do with this Beta version by
googling but have no idea why its there or how to address
it. ( the only Messenger Service I use is MSN and havn't
had anything else strange except fluttering windows from
bottom up and off top of screen which r too fast to read -
but think this is because my taskbar is situated
vertically to left and can be fixed by putting it at
bottom)

Any Suggestions Much Appreciated,
IrishEyes

Are you running CounterSpy as well, by any chance?
This message certainly sounds like something related to code from Giant
Antispyware, but this is the first report I've seen of it in these groups,
as far as I can recall.

Hello Bill,

No, I have never had Counter Spy on my PC, in fact, I've
never heard of it. I run:AdAware SE;Spybot S&D;Freedom
Zero Knowledge AntiSpyware;Blaster and now MS's Beta.
The "open app" or "open window" reminder in my task bar
(what is the proper name for these things anyway?) from
GIANTASAlert:MessengerService is gone today. I thought it
was odd as well since MS acquired the technology from
GIANTAnti-Spyware but have since put their own name on it
so why any mention of GIANT at all?

Thanks for Responding,
IrishEyes

There are several products out there involving technology licensed from
Giant. At the moment, Sunbelt's CounterSpy product is one which is most
similar as far as I know, and folks running both of them or who've run a
Giant Trial version and then Microsoft Antispyware, seem to have some
specific issues.

At this point, my guess is that what you are seeing is related to Microsoft
Antispyware. The re-branding is "in progress" as you can see by looking at
filenames in the installation directory, and the help for the product. It
isn't unusual, even in a final product, to have some instance of this sort
remain--this kind of bug is rated less important than functionality issues.
