Is there any freeware that I can use to back up my hard drive win98,to
cd-rw and retain the long file names. Also I would like it to be
bootable. I am on a disability pension otherwise I would buy Norton
Ghost. Thanks in advance.

If you use a disk/partition imaging software, long filenames will not
be a problem. If you use a file backup software, it can be.

For imaging software, see "Partition Saving" (was Savepart) - a Dos
program, which you can run from a floppy disk if needed:
<http://www.pricelesswarehome.org/2004/PL2004SYSTEMUTILITIES.php#PartitionTool>

About this program see also the following message (and thread):

If you look at the thread you replied to, here:
<http://google.com/groups?&[email protected]#s>,
you might find some other suggestions there in that thread.

Also try a search on Ghost in this group, and look for alternatives to
Ghost suggested here in the past:

All the best,
