Norton Ghost type application

Are there any free (or even shareware) Norton Ghost type applications
available? I need to copy my entire hard drive onto a new one - don't want
to re-install everything one by one. Something easy to use and effective
would be great - thanks in advance!

The manufacturer of the hard disk should have a utility available for
download that will do what you want.

This one works well, it's light and easy to use:

I believe you can do images for 30 days and restore forever. So if you
wanted to use it a few times to get the job done, you'd not need to
purchase it or register.

Take a look at G4U at http://www.feyrer.de/g4u/

It is completely free and I've used it myself. The website has the
following to say:

g4u ("ghost for unix") is a NetBSD-based bootfloppy/CD-ROM that allows
easy cloning of PC harddisks to deploy a common setup on a number of PCs
using FTP. The floppy/CD offers two functions. The first is to upload
the compressed image of a local harddisk to a FTP server, the other is
to restore that image via FTP, uncompress it and write it back to disk.
Network configuration is fetched via DHCP. As the harddisk is processed
as an image, any filesystem and operating system can be deployed using
g4u. Easy cloning of local disks as well as partitions is also supported.

A good one is CopyWipe at www.terabyteunlimited.com . It was $19
shareware but is now free. It creates a bootable floppy to execute
the app. The Copy function works on the full HD either sector by
sector, or on the partition level with or without proportional
partition expansion/contraction for different size HDs. The Wipe
function overwrites the entire disk with 0's, random or specified data
patterns for a specified number of passes.
