Disk Imaging from DOS

I've bought Norton Ghost 2003, and it's been a lifesaver a few times, but
there's just one thing that I wish it could do. It comes with Ghost
Explorer (which only runs under Windows) to restore individual files, which
is great, but wouldn't it make sense to have a DOS version of Ghost Explorer
to restore 1 or 2 individual files that are corrupt and preventing Windows
from starting instead of having to restore the entire drive?

Can anyone recommend a Freeware/Shareware application that works like Norton
Ghost (from DOS) and includes the ability to restore individual files from
DOS?

It would make sense
But then, it would require that 'Dos' application to handle
beasts like long filenames and NTFS.

So for now: if you just need 1 or 2 files: use another PC to
extract them.

I am not sure , I think it is possible to set it
on to a bootable cd and you may be able to
fully run from there.
Out of interest the current version is 2005
version 9 which is lot better than 2003.
Drive Image is another similiar utility with
Image Explorer better than Ghost Explorer.
That gives the user an option to restore individual files as well to the
Origin spot or to
once's choosen folder.

XClone can 'ghost' entire drives and/or directories also preserves LFN
when run from Win 9x DOS window. No Explorer feature though.

A useful DOS utility to have anyhow.

That gives the user an option to restore individual files as well to

The explorer functions in Drive Image (DI) are not as good as in Ghost.

In DI you can only restore files, to their original place or elsewhere.

In Ghost you can restore files, to their original place or elsewhere,
and you can also copy or move files into the image file, so you can
change a drive image in Ghost.

The explorer in Ghost is also better in general than the DI explorer,
better search and sort functions.

Summary:

Ghost is the slowest, but it has the best explorer functions.

DI is faster but has limited explorer functions, only copy files, no
change.

Partition Saving (freeware) is the fastest, but has no explorer functions
at all.
