getting the most ou of xp

I need to know what programs can I turn off to make my
computer respond faster.I only use the computer for hard
disk recording.The software i'm using is pro tools le
6.1.1 .The os is windows xp home edition. The computer
has a 1.6gig processor, 758 ram ect.........
