The probable cause of your Windows XP installation issue is
you are attempting to install XP on the same partition Windows 98
is installed on. If you wish to upgrade over Windows 98, you should
select the default "Upgrade" option during setup. Do not select the
"New Installation" option unless you have an empty drive or partition
and wish to dual-boot with Windows 98.
If you have the "retail version", select the default "Upgrade" option
during setup. If you have an "OEM version", then you cannot upgrade.
In that case a reformat of your drive is required.

| Without going into further details, it's just not installing properly so I'm
| waiting until I've reformatted and starting form scratch. but in the
| meantime, each time I boot up, I get the option of booting from Win XP
| Installation or 98 and unless I'm quick it starts the installation again and
| I have to shut down and start again? How do I get rid of the XP start up
| option?
