Getting knocked off web site

I am having trouble on two websites I log onto.
1. Staples.com -- I enter my user name/password and go to my order list.
When I add an item and press add to cart, I get totally knocked off the site
and internet explorer.

2. Mybcclink.com-- Blue Cross site for administrattors. I enter my user
name/password and press on my employees list. When I press on an employee
name, I get totally knocked off the site and internet explorer.

My SBC DSL service department said I would need to have my internet explorer
repaired or replaced. Can anyone advise me what to do?

Thank you.

To repair Internet Explorer:

Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > Highlight
Internet Explorer6 SP1 and Internet Tools (or whatever version you have)
c. Add/Remove > Select Repair Internet Explorer > OK

Thank you for your quick reply. I was not able to repair Internet Explorer.
I got as far and highlighting Internet Explorer. The only option there was
Internet Explorer Q903235. There was no repair option, so I pressed
Change/Remove [the only option given] and the window says "This program
unistalls your previous configuration. Do you want to uninstall Q903235?" I
said yes. Once this was done, I rebooted my computer and tried my Staples
web site and the same problem occurred. I then reinstalled Internet Explorer
6 from the Microsoft website. I am still having the same problem. I wish
this would have worked. If you can think of anything else, I would
appreciate it. I really don't know too much about the inner workings of
computers.

Well, I just decided to try by Staples and Blue Cross web site again, just
because. They now work. I am very pleased with this, since I have spent 4
hours trying to resolve the issue. Thank you for all your help. I guess
your fix worked and I am extremely grateful!

Emrys,

Are you using your crystal ball? <eg>

OP has given us no indication of OS. E.g. posting via web interface
and no other details, except somebody's second hand suggestion
to use IE Repair. What if it's XP?

In any case my guess is that this is an instance of third-party interference.
The most common way to diagnose it would be to uncheck
Enable third-party browser extensions (requires restart)
(ref. KB298931)
In XPsp2 there is a new tool called Manage Add-ons
which allows refinements to be made instead of that global change.
Alternatively, anybody could use a third-party diagnostic tool
such as BHODemon (from DefinitiveSolutions) to do similar
problem isolation tests.

BTW suspects don't have to be malware to be considered
for this testing. E.g. the first example I was involved with was
ultimately determined to be the BHO for Acrobat Reader 5.0
causing exactly the same thing that this symptom description says.
The IE window just closed without any sign of error.
