Getting incoming notifications to work when Rules move new emails.

I have just upgraded to Outlook 2k3 and have a problem getting the incoming /
new email notifications to work. For example: in Outlook XP you could get a
message box to pop up telling you that a new email has arrived. In 2k3 this
feature has been replaced by a message appearing over the system tray.

The problem is that this notification does not work when an email is sorted
into a sub-directory via a Rule. That is, if a Rule moves an email into a
sub-directory no notification appears telling me that a new email has
arrived. Also, the icon in the system tray does not show the new mail icon.
If the email is not moved by any of the Rules then the notification appears.

Notifications and Rules used to work together in Outlook XP.

Do I need to setup anything to get them working again? :(

So, add the "Display a desktop alert" action to the rule.

This is operating as designed. Microsoft received a lot of feedback from
its customers requesting that the new mail icon behave this way. A lot of
people don't want to see the icon if the message gets moved to another
folder.
