new mail notification not working

I installed SP2 the other day, and now I cannot get new mail notifications.
Under advanced email options, when you click "preview" I cannot even get a
preview display. I do get sound notification. I also tried creating rule for
a desktop notification, and that does not work. For the record, I am not
getting either a popup transluscent notification, or a tray icon with an
envelop. However, I do get the changed icon when OL is synchronizing. These
are all POP account. This all started with SP2 install.

I have seen avrious posts about similar problem with Outlook03 that involved
a firewall conflict, but it is not urgent enough that I am willing to regedit
based on the 03 build and risk truly messing up my computer.

Any thoughts? It really is helpful to know when you have mail instead of
having to enlarge OL from the application bar.

I've been experiencing the same issue - one of the MVPs on here told me to
reboot and that actually worked but the problem comes back as I leave Outlook
open. They also removed my post about the issue from a few days back.

Again this started after SP2 install....
