Getting Contacts into Address Book

B

bklawr

How do I get all of my contacts into my "address book"? For some reason I
have a ton of contacts that I access by pressing "Ctrl 3" but when I try to
e-mail them, their address doesn't come up. When I access my "address book
contacts" at "Ctrl-Shift-B" some are there but not all. I'm missing some
merging function somewhere....

THanks

Impossible to answer from the information you provided. State:
1. Outlook version
2. How your configured the Outlook Address Book in this profile
3. How many Contact Folders you have
4. What Contacts do not appear that you think should, and why.

Outlook Version 2007 (12.0.6316.5000)SP1

I don't know how I have it configured....I just copied stuff over from
Outlook Express when I migrated from a former computer.

I have four "contacts" folders I guess, in addition to whatever is showing
up in my address book contacts.

I guess what's not showing up are the addresses, etc. that are in the other
contact folders.

Thanks.

A certain recipe for disaster as far as the Outlook Address Book is
concerned. Suggest reading the basic Help files on configuring the Outlook
Address Book and posting back with what you followed that doesn't work:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;287563&Product=ol2002

Note that every Contacts Folder must be enabled as an email address book in
it properties for the addresses to appear, and those addresses must be valid
and resolved (imported address often are not).

Thank you that helps a lot! Can you tell me where the address
book/contacts are stored by default so I can be sure to back that up? It
doesn't seem to be in the same directory as my e-mails (unless it's part of
the big .pst file)

There is no address book in Outlook. It is simply a view of your Contacts
Folder which is stored in the same file as all your other Outlook data. The
file you need is your Personal Folders file (*.pst) It's where all the mail,
calendar, contacts etc are stored.

Take a look at these pages for info on Outlook data backup or transfer:

http://www.howto-outlook.com/Howto/backupandrestore.htm
