Get Thumbs :encryptable:$Data message

I believe since I've updated XP I now get a message when
copying my pictures to a CD that shows at the end about
confirm stream loss & data may be lost if I continue
Thumbs :encryptable:$Data. If I choose no it still
continues. My photos seem to copy ok, but I did notice
some have that file included & I am unable to delete it.

I had to start over with recovering my hard drive & hence
used the xP udate & problem is still there. Anyone had
this problem or is it a problem? My Norton antivirus is
current & does not detect anything.

1. Thumbs.db stores thumbnails info for pictures in a folder. It's used by thumbnail view in explorer ONLY. Explorer will display thumbnails regardless. It may interfere with thumbnail view on your CD if you copy it.

Streams are extra info added to the file. They are only available on NTFS and are lost on anything other than NTFS to NTFS file copy. The most common use is the info properties you can set on files (eg author etc). Word (and other OLE compound documents) documents store this info internally. Non OLE coimpound documents (nearly anything non office) can only store this info on NTFS formatted drives.

Judging by the name of your stream it appears to be encryption related.

What you are used to thinking of a file, and what is a file on Fat32 (or CD or most other file systems) formatted drives, is the unnamed stream (and default) of a file on NTFS formatted drives.
