While burning to CD the thumbnails on folders and subfolders chang

The thumbnails on folders and subfolders that I chose do not remain when I
burn to CD. They revert back to 4 pictures. When burning to a CD I get the
error message: "Confirm Stream Loss. The file "thumbs" has extra information
attached to it that might be lost if you continue copying. the contents of
the file will not be affected. Do you want to copy file anyway? Yes, Skip or
Cancel. Thumbs, Type: Data Base File, Date Modified, Size: 8.00 KB" I end up
saying yes or skip the exact number of times of the amount of thumbnails that
are picked for the folders and subfolders. Please let me know how I can
change the properties to allow for the thumbnails that I choose for each
folder and subfolder to remain. Thank-you very much!

Here's some info on thumbs.db.

As for the single thumb of your
choice on a folder...I'm thinking
those links are broken when the
folder is moved or copied to a
different location.

Is there any way to repair the broken links to the
thumbnail folder pictures when burning directly to the CD
or will I need to just accept the 4 folder pictures that
the program defaults to? I am still uncertain why the
single folder pics that I choose are fine as I have them
in the slave drive under a main picture folder but the
single pics just don't transfer during the copy and burn.
Thank-you for your assistance!

I think the simple answer is...no.

Simply moving a folder from one location
to another breaks the links so there is little
doubt that burning to a CD will break them.

I'm not going to waste a CD to find out but normally a a graphic in the folder called folder.jpg (or if it doesn't exist folder.bmp) will be used as the folder graphic. This is a different method to the GUI customisation (and is meant for music folders I think to put the album cover on the folder's thumbnail).

May be true but it doesn't work that
way on my system. If I choose an image
for a folder...it reverts to the default 4
pictures if the folder is moved or copied
to a different location.

By putting a file in it called folder.jpg or bmp (jpg is used in preference to bmp if both are there). Customising via the dialog sets registry entries whichover ride the file method. Moving breaks the link with the registry and so the file will show as a thumbnail. This is a completely different mechinism.

I finally understand what you are
saying and it works like a charm.
I did not realize that I had to actually
rename a file as folder.jpg.

Thank you for explaining it. I hope
Snappy reads your message.

Doesn't matter about snappy, you know now so you monitor this group more frequently than I (cos I have to wade through 100s of posts in other groups before I get to photos and I only post 1 week in 2) so others can be happy.

PS I've only ever pulled cameras to pieces to see how they work, not taken photos. I've never owned a camera as an adult. Though my dad was a bonsai artist and in bonsai to enter international competitions (due to pesky quarantine regulations) one does it by photos. So he had (and has) very expensive chemical camera equipment (and lighting et al) to photographs his trees.

Yes, I understand it now. I tried burning a folder
on a CD and the single image thumbnail view
works there also. Thanks for the info and I will
add it to my data base for future reference.

Yeah, I always liked to take things apart...in my
adult years I even learned to reassemble them.
I was a piano tuner/rebuilder for many years.

I don''t know much about Bonsai but I know it's a
very respected art form. Your dad must be a very
patient man.

Cheers

My sister was also a bonsai artist (though she was more commercial than dad). I want to plant one of her trees in her memory, but as all the trees that were planted in the house that I grew up in are destroying the house (lifting the foundations and breaking the walls apart) dad won't hand any over to plant so my landlord won't have his house destroyed in 40 years time (bonsai turn into normal tres when planted in the ground). I'll be dead then (and the landlord well before then and I've never met him anyway) so I don't care.

Sounds like your dad is an avid collector. Someday
I guess the bonsai collection will be yours? Will you
continue to prune and trim them?

No, I'll give them away to local bonsai clubs. But they need maintenance every year or two else they try to turn into a real tree (not good in 8" x 6" pot). Dad isn't doing it as far as I know. But he just started making bonsai stands again (you need a lot of skills in bonsai). My old bedroom is a wood work shop with lots of machinery. What expertise I have in growing things is with carnivorous plants ($250,000 fine for picking them in the wild - at $2 per week it would take 10,000 years to pay) plus I went to an agricultural school and know about wheat, clover, and lucernes (know more about cows though - making em pregnant is unreal - both arms to the shoulder in each orifice).

My other area of expertise is (in reverse order) political activism, social work, electronics - but soon changed to sales mainly OEM suppling - pace makers, large resource developments, large building developments, poker machines, and also selling scientific instrumentation (purity of steel or current in nerves).

You've had an interesting life...and you have
told me more about cows than I needed to know )

You are using that clunky Windows CDO interface for starters.

Better off using a real news reader like Outlook Express which comes with
Windows on your computer or a third-party application like Forte Agent.

Other than this bit of advice I cannot help because I don't/never have used the
CDO interface.
