Genuine XP copy

My mother purchased a PC running a Genuine XP copy, some time ago.
There is a sticker on the PC with the key code on it.
All was working fine, then she had a few problems (viruses etc...), she then
had it repaired in a local shop.
After getting it back, again all was working fine, then when she did a
security update, it keeps coming up with you are running a none genuine copy
of MS Win' XP.
The option I get is to buy a genuine copy.
Since we already have the key code, is there a place where I can simply tpe
it in, or would I need to reinstall XP or...?

Thanks

If you took the machine to a local repair shop and 'they' re-installed the
operating system, they may be using a pirated copy.

I assume the PC, when purchased, came with recovery disks or a recovery
partition. If so did the repair shop ask you for the recovery disks?

With many repair shops it is eaiser for them to re-install the operating
system than spend hours trying to diagnose an operating system related
problem. If the shop has re-installed the operating system again for you,
from a disk belonging to them, i would certainly have a word with them and
ask why the none genuine copy error message is occurring.
