I ran check disk this morning, and ever since, I keep
getting a message that my copy of WinXP isn't genuine.
My copy of WinXP came with my Dell computer when I bought it
3 years ago, and I've never had to put up with this nonsense
before.

I click on the button to resolve things (after I first go
through the PIA changing the primary browser to IE, because
the MS web site doesn't work with other browsers), and
eventually get the message that my copy has been validated.
But when I shut down I get the same message, and get it
again when I start up.

Is there a way to put a stop to this harassment?

Thanks.

Either get rid of the WGA trojan or set your firewall to block it from
phoning home.

Please go to www.microsoft.com/genuine and revalidate - That should clear the issue.

Thanks anyway.

As I just mentioned in my reply to Carey, the problem seems
to have solved itself, for when I booted up this morning the
message was gone.

I'll save you suggestion for future reference, though.

Thanks again.

Great Bob, the best kind of resolution. Funny how many things like that
happen. One day a problem, then a reboot or two and it's gone. Thanks for
posting back.
