General Question about Hibernation and Standby

Hi All,

I have a question about XP's Hibernation and Standby features.

Suppose I have my computer set up so that it goes into
standby/hibernation after 20 minutes. I am wondering when the 20 minute
countdown begins. For example, if I am running a program that NEEDs to
be run for a long period of time ( < 20 mins)
and I go away from the computer - Will the 20 minutes begin as soon
as I step away from my machine, even if its "working".

I see this as a problem because I do not want the computer to
enter standby when I leave the computer while important processes
are going on.. other examples are -
disk scans, virus checks, back ups etc... you normally dont use
your machine while these things are going on and you surely
wont want it to enter standby or hibernation for that matter
either.

I'm sure theres a way to still set up standby and hibernation
for automatic start but I just want it to start the countdown
when the computer is truely idle.. meaning no important processes or
software's are running..

how does microsoft view this?

any comments/questions are welcome.
