Geforce 7600 GS Problems - Aero

Hi

I have a Geforce 7600 GS AGP card (256 mb ram), dfi pm10-ec motherboard, 1GB
system ram, 300 gb hard drive in 3 partitions, modem lan card.

I installed vista rc1 over the weekend and had no problems except for this:

Everytime I try to enable aero, my system locks up. I even installed the
RC1 drivers from nvidia, but no use. The system locked up during setup when
it tried to rate my pc, it locks up when I try to rate it from the Control
panel and as I said when I try to enable aero. Also after installing the
nvidia driver, and going to the performance tuning in the nvidia control
panel applet, it also caused my system to lock up. Further I have no
problems with vista.

Does anyone have any suggestions or comments on my problem?

Thanks
Paul

Oh yes, I forgot to mention than when I boot into low-res mode (640x480) Aero
works fine. This baffles me, but the moment I try and up the resolution,
even 800x600 the system locks.

I´m not shure why it "crash" but I think that this may help. I found it online

1. Download the 96.33 drivers from NVIDIA
2. Extract to a folder, say "C:\TEMP_9633"
3. Goto Device Manager
4. Right click on your Display adapter and select "Update driver"
5. Select the option to "Select from a list of drivers"
6. In the next window click the option "Have Disk"
7. Now browse to the "C:\TEMP_9633" folder
8. From the list of available drivers you WONT see GeForce GO 7600 BUT the
closest match is the GEFORCE 7600 LE/GT/GS
9. Select one of them (Gefroce 7600 LE/GT/GS) and click next.

10. Viola! The driver WILL successfully install.

The only next thing to do is to update your computer's rating (Vista uses
this to determine the AERO capabilities present or not)
Once you have done that, you can now enable beautiful AERO
Oh by the way, on RC2 there are built in drivers for GeForce Go 7600 (WDDM).
It's just that they are not picked up when doing an install. You have to
manually update it from the list.

I am running a 7300GS and everything works fine. I would however tell you to
stick with the Vista loaded driver. the 96.33 actually lowered my graphics
WEI, from a 3.8/3.1, to a 3.7/3.0. I don't know why, but the 7300GS does not
like the updated driver.

In the vein that Rodrigo and Gene were in, you have a choice of drivers for
that card and you might want to call BFG (of whomever makes that card) Tech
Support and ask them the preferred driver for that specific card because I
know for the 512 MB model of that card some of the drivers available do lock
up more than others.

I have the 7600 GS (256MB) and the 96.85 drivers.
Works great at 1680x1050.
4.6 graphics and 4.8 Gaming scores.
