I have XP Home. I use Norton Utilities 2002. Their WinDoctor
tells me that I'm missing a file called "gapi32.dll" It says that
MAPISRVR.EXE (in the System32 folder) wants it.
What's gapi32.dll about?
What should I do?
this is a known issue in NSW 2003 and earlier
at the command-line, enter the following (exactly as shown):
C:\fsutil hardlink create C:\Windows\System32\gapi32.dll "C:\Program
Files\Common Files\System\Mapi\1033\NT\gapi32.dll"
note - the line above is wrapped for readability, but type the entire thing
on ONE line, the "quotes" are required. a report will NOT be generated if
you've entered the command correctly, else you may see '... not recognized
as internal or external command' if you've entered the above line
incorrectly
assuming you've successfully created a hardlink to gapi32.dll, then re-run
windoctor, the error should no longer be reported
tip - you could also copy the original gapi32.dll file to the
\windows\system32 directory, but the advantage to creating a hardlink (as
shown above) is that you won't have duplicate gapi32.dll files in different
directories on your system and more importantly, if the original gapi32.dll
file gets updated, the hardlink will point to the correct, updated library
(gapi32.dll) file.
