games crashing to desktop or worse

I just got a new comp. Here are the specs

AMD Athalon 2.0 GHz processor
512 MB DDR RAM
Geforce 4 MX 440
on board sound (I don't know the type, but it's ok)
80 GB hard disk
Windows XP Home Ed.

My problem is that on most every game I play, my computer
crashes to the XP desktop without warning within 30
minutes of playing. Here are the games that it has
happened on.

-Homeworld 2
-Command and Conquer: Generals (on this game, when it
crashes the comp reboots)
-Neverwinter Nights
-Max Payne (yes, the original one)

I upgraded my video card with the latest Detonator
drivers, so I doubt that's the problem. My other system
specs are more than enough to play all the games I have
on the list. My question is: has this happened to you?
how did you fix the crashing problem?

Medal of Honor Player

The exact same thing happens to me when I play MOH Allied
Assault, or any of the expansion packs. This only began
happening when I switched to XP. Never happened with Win
ME. I've done all the patching, updating possible, with
no solution to the problem. No one seems to know why this
happens. Different people with different configurations
have the same problem of the game minimizing to the
desktop during play. As frustrated as you are (me too!),
you're just going to have to live with it.
